Actuators Educational Institute to Host Its First Actuarial AI Hackathon 2026

Where Actuarial Judgement Meets Artificial Intelligence!

Actuators Educational Institute is set to host its first Actuarial AI Hackathon 2026, bringing together actuarial science, artificial intelligence, data and real-world problem-solving in a one-day competitive learning experience.

The hackathon will take place in Delhi on 11 October 2026 and Mumbai on 27 February 2027, with an expected count of 10 – 12 teams participating in each city. The event is open to both AEI and non-AEI students, giving participants an opportunity to collaborate, apply their actuarial knowledge and explore how AI-assisted tools can be used to approach practical actuarial problems.

With a total prize pool of ₹1,00,000+, the hackathon is designed to go beyond conventional classroom learning and give students the opportunity to apply their knowledge beyond textbook learning.

One Day. Five Challenges. Real Actuarial Decisions.

Adding to the challenge, participants will discover the problem statements only on the day of the event, requiring them to think on their feet and develop practical solutions within a limited time frame.

Teams will choose from challenge statements and supporting datasets across the following five umbrella topics:

Pricing•Claims•Persistency•Reserving•Open Analytics

The challenge statements and datasets will be released at 10:35 AM, with teams required to lock their chosen challenge by 11:30 AM.

Teams will then work on their selected challenge – interpret the data, select appropriate assumptions, build and validate a model, consider commercial implications and develop a solution that they can confidently present to the judges.

Designed for Students at Different Skill Levels

Participants do not need to be expert coders or AI specialists to take part.

Basic familiarity with AI tools, prompting, logical thinking and problem-solving can be helpful, but the hackathon is intended to encourage participation from students with different levels of technical exposure.

Participants may use suitable AI-assisted tools for ideation, research, coding, prototyping and presentation. However, the solution, development and final presentation remain the responsibility of the participating team.

Participants can also familiarise themselves with tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, basic prompt engineering, website and app-building tools, Google tools, Canva, and basic coding or no-code/low-code platforms before the event.

Team Format and Mentorship

The hackathon will follow a 4 + 1 team format – four students and one actuarial mentor.

Participants can register either individually or as a group of four. Individual participants will be accommodated into teams through the final team-allocation process.

Actuarial mentors will be available during designated mentor windows to guide teams, clarify doubts and help them move in the right direction. However, teams will be responsible for developing their own solutions and presenting their work.

The four student members are expected to take on different responsibilities across areas such as:

                     Data and Modelling•Assumptions and Validation

Pricing and Commercial Interpretation•Presentation and Communication

From Data to Model to Final Pitch

Each team will be required to submit three key deliverables:

01
Model File
A working Excel, R or Python model developed by the team.
02
Assumptions Sheet
A one-page summary of the team’s assumptions, validation approach and limitations.
03
Five-Slide Deck
A concise presentation covering the team’s approach, results and commercial implications.

The submission deadline is 3:45 PM, after which the hard code freeze will come into effect.

The final pitch will be four minutes, followed by questions from the judges. Every student member of the team must participate in the presentation.

What Participants Can Expect

The Actuarial AI Hackathon 2026 gives students an opportunity to:

01
Apply actuarial concepts
Apply actuarial concepts to real-world problems.
02
Work with data
Develop practical models using real-world data.
03
Explore AI-assisted approaches
Explore new approaches to problem-solving with AI.
04
Develop modelling skills
Build practical modelling and validation skills.
05
Strengthen professional judgement
Develop commercial awareness and professional judgement.
06
Learn from mentors
Gain insight and guidance from actuarial mentors.
07
Collaborate with peers
Work collaboratively to solve a shared challenge.
08
Present to an expert panel
Communicate your approach and findings with confidence.
09
Solve an unfamiliar problem under time constraints
Gain hands-on experience tackling an unfamiliar problem in a realistic, time-constrained environment.

The format encourages participants to respond to the challenge as it unfolds, combining critical thinking, teamwork and practical problem-solving to develop a solution within a limited timeframe.
